Carabao Cup third round draw: Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea & more join competition

Liverpool will begin the defence of the Carabao Cup they lifted last season with a home tie against West Ham United in all Premier League clash in the third round.

Arne Slot’s Reds and other Premier League sides competing in European competitions this season have now entered the fray, with 2023 champions Manchester United to face Barnsley at Old Trafford.

Chelsea, beaten finalists at Wembley last season, host League Two’s Barrow, into the third round of the competition for the first time since 1967.

Arsenal, who last lifted this trophy 31 years ago, have a favourable start against Bolton Wanderers. Meanwhile, eight-time winners Manchester City have a home tie against Watford, managed by former Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley.

Punching up from League Two, AFC Wimbledon’s reward for knocking out Ipswich Town of the Premier League in the second round is Newcastle United at home.

Third round ties will be staggered over two different weeks next month, the week commending 16 September and the week commending 23 September. But clubs competing in European competitions will automatically play in the latter due to a clash with a UEFA gameweek in the former.
