Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos favours Man Utd move over possible PSG switch
Sergio Ramos is edging closer to leaving Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer, and is said to fancy a move to the Premier League over a possible switch to French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Talks over a new contract have broken down between Los Blancos and their captain, and having entered the final six months of his contract, he is now able to negotiate a pre-arranged transfer to any club in Europe.
This collapse between Madrid and Ramos has encouraged French giants PSG to try and lure the Spaniard to Ligue 1, but according to The Mirror, the World Cup winner has his eyes set on a possible move to the Premier League, with Manchester United his preferred destination.
90min exclusively revealed in November 2020 that the Premier League’s big six were all pondering a move for the centre-back, and that he could be tempted into leaving Madrid in the summer.
The Red Devils are one of a handful of clubs who could afford to pay Ramos‘ hefty wages, as he’ll be requesting more than £200,000-a-week, despite his advancing years. The 34-year-old is still an elite defender, and will expect to be paid accordingly by whichever club lands his services.
Sources close to the player have suggested that a move to Manchester City or Liverpool would be ‚very difficult‘ to finalise, but they are not ruling anyone out at this stage. That could tempt Everton into making a play for the experienced centre-back, using coach Carlo Ancelotti as their leverage, after the two worked closely during the Italian’s time in the Spanish capital.
All this leaves the door open for Man Utd, who are believed to be Ramos‘ preference should he complete a move to England. The Red Devils have demonstrated that they are willing to sign ageing players on free transfers, having snatched 33-year-old Edinson Cavani for nothing at the end of the summer transfer window.
So, a move for one of football’s most experienced and successful servants is a more than realistic alternative to shore up their defence next year.
