Barcelona ‚convinced‘ about Federico Chiesa transfer despite Liverpool interest
Barcelona believe they will beat Liverpool to the signing of Juventus forward Federico Chiesa, a report has claimed.
Chiesa is not in Juventus‘ plans for the 2024/25 season and has been granted permission to pursue an exit before the transfer deadline.
Though Juve are willing to sell him for a cut-price deal, Chiesa has not been able to drum up significant interest until late in the window.
Last week, Barcelona emerged as a potential destination for the 26-year-old, while Liverpool’s interest became public on Monday night.
According to Catalan outlet SPORT, Barca reckon they will win the race for Chiesa as long as they are able to ‚overcome bureaucratic obstacles‘. They have only recently been able to register marquee summer signing Dani Olmo with La Liga, and that came about as Andreas Christensen was deselected after sustaining a long-term injury.
Barcelona will need to clear further salaries in order for a new signing to be registered, but if they achieve that, the club believe Chiesa will accept their offer instead of any to come from Liverpool. The report suggests the Italy international is leaning towards a move to Catalonia rather than Merseyside regardless.
Club president Joan Laporta is also hoping to close a new deal with Nike this week that would ease their concerns and allow further flexibility when it comes to La Liga’s financial regulations. Barcelona are among one of very few clubs under Nike who have not yet released a third kit for the 2024/25 season, while their away strip has been leaked but not officially unveiled.
Olmo and 22-year-old forward Pau Victor remain Barcelona’s only incomings so far this summer. Liverpool are yet to make an addition to their squad for this season, though an agreement is in place to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from 2025.
