Raheem Sterling’s stance on Man Utd move revealed – report
Raheem Sterling would entertain a late move to Manchester United this transfer window, a report has claimed, but only once he has reached an agreement with Chelsea over the payout of his contract.
The Blues have stripped Sterling of his squad number and told him to find a new club before the window closes on Friday.
The winger has been linked with the likes of Aston Villa and Crystal Palace in recent days, while United have also emerged as a potential destination.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Sterling would consider a switch to Old Trafford. Though he has played for rivals Liverpool and Manchester City, he has previously admitted that he grew up as a fan of United.
But while Sterling is mindful to an exit from Chelsea, he first wants assurances over at least the partial payment of his contract.
Sterling’s deal at Stamford Bridge is worth £300,000-a-week and runs for three more years, so he would be owed £40m by Chelsea if he stays to complete the full length of that contract.
Though a permanent exit is Sterling’s preference, talks will take place over the subsidisation of his salary should he leave on an initial loan. Once this financial hurdle is overcome, he will begin to discuss personal terms with interested parties.
United have made four signings already this transfer window, bringing in striker Joshua Zirkzee plus defenders Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. Talks are ongoing with Paris Saint-Germain over midfielder Manuel Ugarte, who could replace Scott McTominay in the squad should he accept a £25.4m move to Napoli.
Chelsea and United both sit on three points after two rounds of Premier League fixtures so far this season.
