Eddie Nketiah’s proposed transfer away from Arsenal ‚breaks down‘
Nottingham Forest are believed to have failed in their attempts to sign Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah.
The two-time European champions are on the hunt for a new striker before the transfer window shuts on Friday and had identified Nketiah as one of their key targets.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that Forest had been close to finalising a deal for the 25-year-old after agreeing a £30m package with Arsenal.
However, trouble arose during discussions over personal terms and talks have collapsed.
Though Nketiah will not be heading to the City Ground, he is ‚expected‘ to secure a move away from Arsenal prior to the transfer deadline. Marseille were in for him earlier in the window but a fresh approach would be surprising given they recently signed Elye Wahi from Lens.
Nketiah has been an unused substitute for Arsenal’s two Premier League games so far this season – 2-0 wins against Wolves and Aston Villa – and has game time dwindled towards the end of the 2023/24 campaign. Having made his England debut last year, he was left out of Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2024 and is unlikely to return to the Three Lions fold if he remains out in the cold at club level.
Forest, meanwhile, are advancing talks with Feyenoord over Santiago Gimenez, according to Fabrizio Romano. Their latest bid is believed to be worth £28m inclusive of add-ons, which would represent a club-record sale for Feyenoord if they accept.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have made an unbeaten start to the 2024/25 campaign. Though they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Bournemouth last week, Forest defeated Southampton 1-0 at St Mary’s on Saturday.
