Amad Diallo scores outrageous Panenka as Man Utd Under-23s crush rivals Liverpool

Manchester United youngster Amad Diallo marked his debut for the club’s Under-23 side with a brace against Liverpool in a Premier League 2 match, inspiring his new team to a 6-3 win and even converting a Panenka effort from the penalty spot with a confident.

Diallo needed only 14 minutes to open the scoring, dispossessing a Liverpool defender to go one-on-one with the goalkeeper before converting a cool finish with his left foot.

United raced into a 2-0 through Joe Hugill. But after Liverpool pulled it back to 2-2, Hugill scored three more goals unanswered to hand United a 5-2 advantage. When they were awarded a penalty, Diallo confidently stepped up, shaping to smash the ball and instead delicately dinking it home.

Liverpool pulled one more back in the closing stages, but United were too far ahead; Diallo, meanwhile, could hardly have asked for a better first outing in his new club’s colours.

The former Atalanta talent first agreed a £38.5m switch to Old Trafford in October and completed the move in January when his paperwork was filed and his work permit was granted.

Diallo has had glowing reviews from manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who on more than one occasion has hinted it will only be a matter of time before a first-team chance comes.

The player is training with the senior squad already and has impressed so far, making it impossible for Solskjaer to ignore him. With the brace against Liverpool under his belt and the nature of his confident second goal, the likelihood of a first-team debut sooner rather than later is even stronger.

United are due to face Southampton at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening, before upcoming games against Everton, West Ham (FA Cup) and West Brom. They will play Real Sociedad in the Europa League on 18 February and you would no longer rule out Diallo potentially being involved in any of those fixtures over the coming three weeks as he fast-tracks himself into contention.
