Tottenham make contact over Real Madrid midfielder – report

Real Madrid are reported to have rejected an enquiry from Tottenham Hotspur for versatile midfielder Brahim Diaz.

Spurs are searching for midfield reinforcements this summer as Ange Postecoglou seeks to improve his squad, who started last season in stunning form but ended up tumbling down to fifth and being forced to settle for a spot in the Europa League.

According to Foot Mercato, one player of interest to Spurs is Brahim, with club officials reaching out to Madrid to see what it would take to get a deal over the line.

Madrid, however, wasted little time in informing Spurs and fellow suitors Roma that Brahim is not for sale this summer.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti is said to be an enormous fan of Brahim, who has also convinced club officials that he will play a useful role in the squad next season.

Brahim, 24, managed 44 appearances in all competitions last season, exactly half of which came as a starter.

The former Manchester City youngster primarily helped out in the unique striker role in Madrid’s squad last season, covering for both Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, but questions have been asked over his importance to a squad which has added both Kylian Mbappe and Endrick this summer.

Nevertheless, Madrid appear adamant that Brahim has a role to play next season, forcing Spurs to look elsewhere.

The Premier League outfit are believed to be keen on Crystal Palace star Ebere Eze, while Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher remains a target for a deeper midfield role.
