The USMNT will have to go into a must-win game against Uruguay without Tim Weah. The winger was sent off in the 18th minute against Panama after he struck Roderick Miller in the back of the head, and will serve his suspension on Monday.
Without Weah, Gregg Berhalter and his team are left in a rather precarious situation. The manager will have to make a few changes to his starting XI as the Stars and Stripes take on a Uruguay squad that has only lost two games in the last two years.
Matt Turner’s status heading into the match is also questionable after the keeper was subbed off at halftime with a leg injury.
USA predicted lineup vs Uruguay ( 4-3-3 ): Turner; Scally, Richards, Ream, Robinson; Musah, Adams, McKennie; Reyna, Balogun, Pulisic
Uruguay already secured their spot in the Copa America 2024 quarter-finals after their 5-0 victory against Bolivia. La Celeste were one of the dark horses coming into the competition, and their Group Stage performances are showing exactly why.
Marcelo Bielsa might opt to rest some of his starters against the USA in preparation for his team’s first knockout match, but the manager could also put out his full strength starting XI to give his side every opportunity to guarantee their top spot in Group A.
Uruguay predicted lineup vs USA (4-2-3-1): Rochet; Vina, Olivera, Araujo, Nandez; Ugarte, Valverde; Araujo, de la Cruz, Pellistri; Nunez
The USA will come out fighting against Uruguay, but the quality on the pitch for La Celeste will be able to withstand the Stars and Stripes. Marcelo Bielsa’s attack has been on fire in June, outscoring opponents 12-1 in their last three matches, and it is hard to envision Berhalter’s side having enough of an answer without Tim Weah up top.
