Inter Miami vs St. Louis CITY: Preview, predictions and lineups

Business

Inter Miami play host to St. Louis CITY this weekend at Chase Stadium in Major League Soccer action.

The Herons are coming off a 3-1 defeat to Eastern Conference foes Atlanta United in the midweek on their home turf. It was a disappointing night for Gerardo ‚Tata‘ Martino’s side, as the south Florida side were unable to contain Atlanta when they sprung forward on counter attacks.

Miami remain in the driver’s seat in the Eastern Conference table, though, in a desirable position unlike their opponents. St. Louis have struggled in 2024 with just three wins from 14 matches played. The Western Conference outfit sit in 11th place in the division and will look to get back on track with a positive result vs Miami.

Here’s 90min’s guide to Miami vs St. Louis.

Star midfielder Diego Gomez remains out for Miami as he’s recovering from a knee injury suffered back in April. The Paraguay international is expected to return to the mix in late June, while defender Ian Fray is also on track to return at the same time from his ACL injury suffered last season.

Inter Miami predicted lineup vs St. Louis CITY ( 4-3-3 ): Callender; Weigandt, Aviles, Kryvtsov, Alba; Cremaschi, Busquets, Redondo, Messi, Suarez, Rojas.

St. Louis boss Bradley Carnell will be relieved with no fresh injuries in the squad. To make it that much better, St. Louis announced the signing of Cedric Teuchert from 2. Bundesliga side Hannover 96 on a free transfer. The versatile German will be a welcomed addition to Carnell’s squad but it would be a bit of a surprise to see him involved this weekend.

Inter Miami predicted lineup vs St. Louis CITY ( 4-2-3-1 ): Burki; Totland, Parker, Nilsson, Hiebert; Blom, Ostrak; Alm, Lowen, Pompeu; Klauss.

Miami will be eager to bounce back from their midweek defeat against Atlanta, but they’ll face stiff competition in doing so vs St. Louis. Despite their poor record, St. Louis are no slouch with the likes of Joao Klauss and Eduard Lowen in attack.

That being said, Miami have too much quality up front to not get on the scoresheet early to put pressure on the St. Louis defense. It might not be the most beautiful soccer on display from the Herons, but they’ll managed to get back in the win column.

Prediction: Inter Miami 2-0 St. Louis CITY
