Arsenal director makes ‚very strange‘ comment about Man City title win
Arsenal sporting director Edu Gaspar has admitted to feeling ‚very strange‘ after failing short to Manchester City in this season’s Premier League title race.
City were able to claim their fourth successive league title on the final day of the 2023/24 campaign, beating West Ham United and shattering Arsenal’s dreams of silverware.
Despite their efforts, the Gunners finished two points behind the champions, leaving Edu – who was part of their Invincibles squad of 2003/04 – with a ’strange feeling‘.
Speaking to Estadao, Edu said: „There are things that unfortunately I cannot say what I feel. It’s a strange feeling, very strange! Because we end the season with the feeling that we’ve done everything right.
„From the signings and the goals to the renewals. Mikel [Arteta] did a great job and achieved the goals. We did everything we could, but it wasn’t enough. There’s frustration, but there’s also a positive feeling that the process was done well. The work was excellent.
„But all the credit in the world to Pep [Guardiola] for the training and work he’s been doing since he started his career. I even joke with my son that I want to see if he’s really good at rugby. It’s a joke I make because he’s already won everything in football.“
Guardiola’s job at the Etihad has been remarkable, but his work could come into question as City face 115 charges from the Premier League over breaches of financial regulations. If proven guilt, in a hearing expected this autumn, they could be stripped of their titles and may even be forcibly relegated.
Arsenal will hope to end their wait for a Premier League title and bring the trophy to north London next season, in what could be Guardiola’s last in charge at City.
