Copa America 2024 is right around the corner and there will be several nations fancying their chances at winning the tournament this summer in the United States.

A few CONMEBOL members will be the outright favorites to win the competition with Lionel Messi and Vinicius Junior spearheading the attacks for their respective Argentina and Brazil. However, don’t brush off the 1930 World Cup winners as they look to gain a foothold in the South American game.

There are also two CONCACAF countries that could play dark horse roles after their recent bouts in the Gold Cup and Nations League — the must-watch entertainment that is the US men’s national team vs Mexico.

Here are the top favorites to win Copa America.

Mexico are very much going through a transition phase with head coach Jaime ‚Jimmy‘ Lozano at the helm.

However, that doesn’t mean that they couldn’t make a little noise this summer. While Lozano made huge decisions to leave the likes of Guillermo ‚Memo‘ Ochoa and Hirving ‚Chucky‘ Lozano off the roster, El Tri still have Santiago Gimenez and Edson Alvarez to mount a serious run in the competition.

There will be a considerable amount of pressure on the USMNT and Gregg Berhalter do well in their home soil at Copa America.

This arguably the most talented squad the US has had in some time — maybe even ever — and anything less than a quarter-final finish would probably be seen as failure.

You might not think of them at first, but Uruguay have one of the best talent pools in Copa America — they’ve won the tournament 15 times, after all.

Of course, Federico Valverde, Luis Suarez and Darwin Nunez will all be the big names to watch but don’t be surprised to see Rodrigo Bentancur and Manuel Ugarte play big roles, too.

With Neymar out of the picture, all eyes will be on Vinicius Junior as he aims to propel Brazil to their 10th Copa America title.

The Real Madrid figure will have help in the form of fellow club teammate Rodrygo and Barcelona forward Raphinha, but they aren’t the main favorite to take home Copa America.

There’s no denying it: Argentina and Lionel Messi will be the outright favorites this summer as they look to defend their 2021 title — to lift their 16th Copa America — and build on their 2022 World Cup triumph.

Eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi will have his sights set on guiding his home country to one more trophy in what could be his last international tournament for Argentina.
