New York Red Bulls predicted lineup vs Charlotte FC – MLS
After over week’s rest from action, New York Red Bulls are all set to take on Charlotte FC in a midweek clash at Red Bull Arena.
It’s been a frustrating last few weeks for Red Bulls despite their brilliant start to the 2024 MLS campaign. The Eastern Conference club have endured a winless run of four matches — three draws and one thumping 6-2 defeat to Inter Miami — before picking up two straight wins vs New England Revolution and DC United.
New head coach Sandro Schwarz has to be a little disappointed with how his side have been inconsistent this term. Following RBNY’s pair of wins over fellow Eastern Conference sides in which they scored eight goals across two matches, Schwarz’s team then came up short against in-state rivals NYCFC.
The defeat to NYC may have come at the perfect time, though, as Red Bulls fell to their bitter rivals back on May 18 — their last match played — meaning they’ve had plenty of time to rest and reset for their next test against Charlotte.
Schwarz will stick to his guns with his preferred 4-4-2 setup, banking on the likes of Lewis Morgan and Dante Vanzeir to make things up top with Emil Forsberg drifting inside from the left-wing.
Here’s how RBNY could take the pitch vs Charlotte.
GK: Carlos Coronel – Coronel was one of Red Bulls‘ better performers despite conceding two goals vs NYCFC last time out. He’ll look to keep his third clean sheet of the season come Wednesday night.
RB: Dylan Nealis – The experienced full-back makes a return to the XI after watching on from the bench in the last two matches.
CB: Andres Reyes – With Sean Nealis out through suspension, Reyes gets the starting nod in the heart of defense.
CB: Noah Eile – Eile gets more minutes under his belt as he continues to navigate his first season in MLS.
LB: John Tolkin – The 21-year-old is coming off one of his best performances of the season in the loss to NYCFC.
RM: Wikelman Carmona – Carmona takes up shop at right-wing, looking to combine with Vanzeir in the final third.
CM: Frankie Amaya – The well-rounded player anchors the middle of the park alongside Edelman.
CM: Daniel Edelman – He might not have the most eye-popping stats, but he remains key to Schwarz’s setup.
LM: Emil Forsberg – The ex-RB Leipzig figure will look to cause chaos and slide into the midfield with his exceptional ball-carrying capabilities.
ST: Dante Vanzeir – The Belgium international has blanked in his last three appearances and could look to change that vs Charlotte.
ST: Lewis Morgan – Morgan makes a return to the striker position after featuring at left-wing against New York City.
