Bruno Fernandes offers worrying update on Man Utd future after reports of squad overhaul

Bruno Fernandes has admitted he could consider his future at Manchester United this summer following reports he could be made available for transfer.

It was reported on Monday that United are prepared to listen to offers for nearly every player in Erik ten Hag’s senior squad, with only young stars like Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Rasmus Hojlund deemed not for sale.

In an interview with DAZN, Fernandes was asked about his long-term future at Old Trafford and the 29-year-old, while adamant he currently feels happy with United, refused to close the door to a summer exit.

„I’m not thinking about other things at the moment,“ he stressed. „Obviously, it doesn’t just depend on me, does it? A player always has to want to be here, but at the same time, you have to want him to stay. At the moment, I feel there’s that on both sides.

„I’m not thinking too much about the future, not least because, obviously, this season hasn’t been at the level I’d hoped for, either individually or collectively, so far.

„We could still end the season by winning the [FA] Cup. After that, we have a very important Euros coming up.

„So, if you want me to be very honest, if I have to think about not continuing in the Premier League, it won’t be until after the Euros because nothing will be able to take my focus away from the FA Cup final and the Euros, as there’s nothing more important than that at the moment.“

Most of the speculation following the report has revolved around Marcus Rashford. It was later claimed that United, while open to a possible sale, would only consider parting ways with the academy graduate if they received a huge offer and Rashford himself asked to leave.

That stance would likely be mirrored with Fernandes, who has been a huge figure for United since his move from Sporting CP in January 2020.

Fernandes, who will turn 30 in September, still has two years remaining on his contract at Old Trafford, with United also holding the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.
