Marc Cucurella reveals Chelsea squad’s stance on Mauricio Pochettino’s future
Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella says the Blues boss has the full support of the squad following a dramatic 2-2 draw at Aston Villa.
Fans have continued to debate over whether Mauricio Pochettino should remain in power at Stamford Bridge following an array of poor performances.
Pressure will have lifted slightly on Saturday as Chelsea fought back from 2-0 down to earn a deserved draw at Villa Park. A third almost came their way as Axel Disasi tapped a corner into the back of the net – although it was eventually disallowed by VAR.
After the game, Cucurella acknowledged Chelsea’s fight-back was a sign that the squad remain committed to Pochettino.
Asked whether the fight-back was evidence of the Chelsea squad’s committment to Pochettino, Cucurella admitted: „Yes, for sure. [Pochettino] spoke very well at half-time, and all the people saw the team’s reaction.
„A lot of the games we don’t win, and that is part of the game, but I think it is more the whole problem because we have the quality and maybe we don’t show what we can do. When we lose 5-0, I don’t think the manager can do anything.
„I think it is more about us [the players], about our attitude. He has helped a lot of us, he has good communication skills, and the team supports him. We are in a good way.
„We all need to improve every week, stay at the same level, and have the same attitude every minute because we need to win. If we stay together, we can do good things.“
Pochettino, however, remains unsure as to whether he will continue his career at Stamford Bridge next season, winning just 13 of 33 league games this season.
The boss agreed when he first arrived at Chelsea that his position will be reviewed at the end of the season as part of a process which will also give Pochettino the chance to voice his feelings towards the owners and directors.
