Arsenal target delivers tantalising update on future
Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana says he hasn’t discussed his future with the club amid rumoured interest from European giants like Arsenal.
The 25-year-old has scored three times and contributed three assists in Ligue 1 so far this season for a Monaco side sat in second.
Fofana’s contract will have only one year left to run at the end of 2023/24 and Footmercato have claimed Arsenal are interested in picking up the France international. Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan are also said to be tracking him.
Speaking about his future, Fofana said: „We haven’t yet spoken about it with the sporting director [Thiago Scuro].
„He’ll allow me to finish the season so that there aren’t too many things in my head and if I then go to the Euros with the France national team, we will speak about it upon my return. We haven’t dwelt on it.
“[Champions League qualification] could be important. As I said, we haven’t dwelt on it. We’ll see what happens when we come back for pre-season.“
Fofana played in Ligue 1 for Strasbourg for two seasons before joining Monaco in 2020. His subsequent form saw him included in France’s 2022 World Cup squad. He has scored three goals in 17 appearances for Les Bleus so far.
PSG are reported to have acquired about his availability this summer ahead of their post-Kylian Mbappe rebuild. They are also said to hold an interest in Manchester City wizard Bernardo Silva.
Arsenal once again paired Declan Rice with Thomas Partey in Sunday’s 3-2 north London derby success at Tottenham Hotspur, with club captain Martin Odegaard conducting their attacks.
90min understands the Gunners are also tracking Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes, who could be sold by the Magpies this summer if offers in excess of £80m are submitted.
