Charlie Adam’s response to old Sergio Aguero comparison is wonderful Twitter content

As (Wayne) Rooney Mara’s character told us in the 2010 film The Social Network, ‚the Internet’s not written in pencil, it’s written in ink.‘

Unfortunately for the Daily Mail’s Oliver Holt, that means his prediction that Liverpool’s acquisition of Charlie Adam could go on to be a better deal than Manchester City signing of Sergio Aguero back in 2011… is still there.

A bold claim indeed.

Ten years on, Aguero is leaving City as the Premier League’s all-time leading foreign goalscorer, racking up close to 200 goals in his ten years in England. Adam, meanwhile, was offloaded by Liverpool after just one season.

With Aguero announcing the end of his time at City, Holt’s infamous tweet resurface and made its way to Adam, who seemingly found it as amusing as the rest of football Twitter.

„I think he did okay in the end,“ the Scottish midfielder wrote, followed by two laughing emojis.

Don’t get it twisted, two goals and ten assists in 37 appearances for Liverpool (and some better performances for Stoke and Blackpool) is nothing to sneeze at, but it’s not quite build-a-statue-outside-the-stadium good, is it?

Now playing in Scotland’s second tier with Dundee, the former Stoke and Blackpool midfielder was happy to join in with some of the tributes sent Aguero’s way after the news that the Argentine is set to leave City at the end of the season.

Barcelona were recently named as favourites to sign Aguero once his contract with City expires. New president Joan Laporta has long been keen to land the Argentine, whose arrival he hopes will help convince Lionel Messi to stay.

There are still rumours of interest from the likes of Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, but all the current signs suggest Aguero could be lining up at Camp Nou next season.
