Chelsea joins clubs across Europe in pursuit of Brazil goalkeeper – report
Chelsea are reported to be considering a move for Athletico Paranaense goalkeeper Bento, who is linked with a number of other clubs in England and Europe.
Bento has quickly risen to become Athletico’s number one stopper since 2022 and recently impressed on the international stage after making his debut for Brazil.
The 24-year-old faced England in an first international friendly this month, handed his debut with both Alisson Becker and Ederson injured. He was able to keep a clean sheet against the Three Lions, an accolade that has caught the attention of recruiters across Europe.
Chelsea could consider a deal for Bento to fix their current goalkeeper situation. The Blues have used both Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic so far this season, yet they are in need of a more reliable permanent number one choice to strengthen their defence.
According to Globo Esporte in Brazil, Inter and Benfica are both also eyeing Bento, while Premier League duo Nottingham Forest and Wolves have also shown interest.
The goalkeeper’s stock has risen dramatically following his Brazil debut and Athletico will be looking for a sizeable fee to let him go. They rejected a £12.5m offer from an unnamed club in January and will be hoping to earn significantly more.
The Brazilian is attractive to clubs in mainland Europe, with his Italian passport making a transfer more straightforward. He is also well placed to become Brazil’s new number one in due course.
Bento gave a composed performance at Wembley and again when facing Spain. He conceded three goals against the latter, although two were penalties. For Athletico, Bento has conceded just six goals across 11 apearances of the 2024 Parana state championship, recording five clean sheets.
