adidas have officially unveiled the latest in a long line of signature boots for Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.

The Nemeziz Messi.1 Rey del Balon are the German sportswear giant’s latest homage to the superlative Argentine, who is continuing to smash records and put up ridiculous numbers despite his age suggesting he should be reaching the twilight of his career.

The Rey del Balon – or ‚King of the Ball‘ – arrives with a dazzling red, yellow and black abstract print with personalised embellishment details for Messi in the form of two medial logos on the boot – one gold welded crown logo & Messi’s signature logo in yellow.

The Nemeziz Messi.1 features a V-shaped ‚Tension Tape‘ collar which offers a perfect wrap around the ankle, with a revolutionary upper construction. Meanwhile, the split outsole & ‚Torsion System‘ technology allows for ‚extreme torsional movements‘, while maintaining balance.

In the recent 6-1 thumping of Real Sociedad, Messi was making his record-breaking 768th appearance for Barcelona. He has now moved clear of legendary midfielder Xavi, who had stood on top of the appearance charts for almost 11 years.

That record has dominated the headlines after the game, but that wasn’t the only honour which Messi has claimed as his own as a result of this game.

Messi bagged his 467th goal in La Liga – 156 more than closest rival Cristiano Ronaldo – and he has now set the record for most goals by one player in a single league, surpassing the 466 goals bagged by Pele for Brazilian side Santos.
