Manchester United are awaiting medical reports from France over the fitness of forward Anthony Martial, who picked up a knee injury during Sunday’s 2-0 win over Kazakhstan.

Martial started the game but appeared to get his studs caught in the turf shortly after half-time, and he looked in real pain as he received treatment for a few minutes.

The 25-year-old did get to his feet and carried on for a few minutes, but appeared to hurt himself even more striking a ball and had a noticeable limp as he trudged off the field in the 59th minute to be replaced by Kylian Mbappe.

As of yet, there has been no update on Martial’s condition, by Sky Sports News note that United are eagerly awaiting clarification over whether the Frenchman will need to return home early from international duty.

The fact that Martial felt able to continue after the initial incident is somewhat encouraging, although there are now fears that he may have made the injury worse by attempting to play on and even strike the ball.

It will be a concern for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has already lost Mason Greenwood to injury during this international break and remains without Marcus Rashford, who was forced to withdraw from the England squad with the foot injury he has been carrying recently.

With Juan Mata also nursing a muscle injury, Solskjaer isn’t exactly blessed with too many options in attack right now.

Out wide, Daniel James, Amad Diallo and Shola Shoretire could be called upon if needed, while Edinson Cavani remains available in attack for what could be a crucial period in United’s season.

After returning to Premier League action against Brighton on Sunday, United must then face a tricky away trip to Europa League underdogs Granada, before a return to domestic action against Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur.
