Norway stage second Qatar World Cup protest in Turkey qualifier
Norway have staged a second protest over Qatar’s hosting of the 2022 World Cup, wearing a t-shirt with the message, ‚Human rights on and off the pitch‘ emblazoned across it, while also holding up five fingers before the start of the match.
The Norwegian national team has taken a strong stance against the World Cup being held in Qatar, after a report revealed that more than 6,500 migrant workers have died since they began construction work for the tournament.

Qatar has caused controversy with reported breaches of the official Universal Declaration of Human Rights with particular regard to migrant workers, who are being used to construct the stadiums in which next year’s tournament will take place.
Norway marked their opening World Cup qualifier against Gibraltar by wearing t-shirts in support of human rights across the planet, and went one step further prior to kickoff in their second match against Turkey on Saturday evening.
The players warmed up wearing the same shirts, with the words, ‚Human rights on and off the pitch‘ written across them, while they also held up five fingers prior to the first whistle. The gesture has yet to be explained by the team, although it has been used across Asia in protests against the breaching of human rights.

FIFA had previously confirmed that they will not take any action against Norway for their protests.
Norway is not the only country to speak out against the proposed hosting of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, either. Germany also lined up with the message ‚Human rights‘ spelled out across their shirts prior to their tie with Iceland, while Denmark have also said they are preparing their own form of protest against the Qatari regime.
Kasper Schmeichel confirmed their plans, although refused to provide any specific information, as cited by nrk.
„You will see what it is tomorrow,“ the Leicester City goalkeeper said.
