There’s another difficult FPL captaincy conundrum to mull over before the deadline for Gameweek 27.
Erling Haaland has disappointed his vast array of managers in recent weeks, scoring only once in two matches in Gameweek 25 before picking up just five points last time out at Bournemouth. With alternative picks consistently hitting double-digit hauls, who should be on the radars of FPL players when handing out the armband?
In conjunction with Fantasy Football Hub’s powerful AI Points Predictions tool, here are the top captain picks this week.
Erling Haaland
Haaland has been consistent – if not explosive – in recent weeks.
The Manchester City striker has registered five goal involvements in five Premier League starts since returning from injury. However, he reminded FPL players what he’s capable of in midweek FA Cup action, scoring five goals in the 6-2 win against Luton Town.
Haaland will be fired up for the Manchester derby, with the reigning champions in need of another victory in the Premier League title race. He produced his best ever FPL return of 23 points in this fixture last season, with three goals and two assists in a resounding 6-3 victory.
Ivan Toney
It’s been a mixed bag of returns for Ivan Toney since his comeback, with four goals and one assist in seven appearances for this campaign. It’s not been enough to improve Brentford’s overall form, with five defeats and just two wins in this period.
Toney’s underlying numbers remain impressive; he’s had 17 shots on goal over the last four gameweeks, with five big chances yielding two goals. Upcoming opponents Chelsea are without a clean sheet in their last four outings, conceding ten goals in that time, and Toney could take advantage of the visitors‘ inconsistency.
Bukayo Saka
Arsenal talisman Bukayo Saka has been in remarkable form in February, scoring a mammoth 49 FPL points across the four gameweeks, including three double-digit hauls. He’s racked up six goals from eight shots on target, showcasing his clinical finishing.
The Gunners have won all their league matches in 2024, scoring 25 goals in that spell, the most of any side. Meanwhile, opponents Sheffield United continue to struggle at the bottom of the table, conceding a league high 17 goals. The reverse fixture in October ended 5-0 to Arsenal.
