When is Jurgen Klopp’s last game as Liverpool manager?

Business

It will take some time for Liverpool fans to get over the fact that Jurgen Klopp is leaving at the end of the season, but at least they know he can be given a proper send-off.

The German coach announced his decision to the fans via the club’s media on Friday in what was an emotionally charged interview. He explained that he cannot maintain the same level of energy year-on-year and the 2023/24 campaign will be his last in charge of the Reds.

There are many examples of players or coaches in football who didn’t quite get the send-off that they perhaps could have due to the nature of their departure or the cruelty of the fixture list, so Liverpool fans are immediately looking to see when the final home game of the season will be, and more importantly where it will be.

Klopp’s first match in charge following the announcement is at Anfield, against Norwich City in the FA Cup. There is going to be more attention than expected on that game now, with Klopp sure to get an incredible reception when he takes his place on the sidelines.

Liverpool’s final Premier League game of the season is a visit from Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield. That could be an incredible occasion in more ways than one.

It will be Klopp’s final game at Anfield in front of his own fans, and there is every reason to think that the Premier League title race is going to go down to the final day of the season. It will be a thoroughly emotional occasion at Anfield, regardless of what goes down in terms of the title.

That game is currently scheduled for Sunday 19 May at 16:00 UK time, and you can expect resale tickets to cost an incredible amount of money as fans try and get in to say goodbye to Klopp.

While the Premier League finale will be Klopp’s last outing at Anfield as the Liverpool coach, there is a chance that he will have two more games to navigate after that one.

The Reds are still in the Europa League and the FA Cup at the time of writing and given the clear quality of the team and the players they have to return from injury, they are among the favourites to win both tournaments.

The players will be giving it their all for Klopp in every game between now and the end of the season, and they also know that they need to impress whichever coach comes in to replace the German.

The Europa League final is scheduled to be played on Wednesday 22 May at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Should Liverpool get there, they will have by far the most fans in the Irish capital.

The FA Cup final will be played on Saturday 25 May at Wembley. This will be the final game for Klopp if the Reds get there, and it would add a fascinating element to the proceedings.

In the space of one week, Liverpool could have their last home game with Klopp, their last European game with Klopp, and the last game altogether with Klopp. They could secure three trophies, they could lose three trophies.

Whatever happens, there will be tears.
