Tottenham agree personal terms with Radu Dragusin but centre-back search continues

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed personal terms in principle with Genoa defender Radu Dragusin, sources have confirmed to 90min.

Spurs are on the hunt for a new centre-back and have made signing one their top priority for the January transfer window.

90min reported earlier this week that Tottenham were eyeing 21-year-old Dragusin, but a deal would not be as easy to complete as suggested in the Italian media.

Sources have now told 90min that Spurs and Dragusin have reached a broad agreement over personal terms, though this was never expected to be a stumbling block.

Tottenham and Genoa remain in talks over a transfer fee, which is where most of the difficulty of completing the deal will lie. Spurs had initially been told a fee of around £20m would have been enough to sign Dragusin, but this is not the case and the Serie A side are holding out for a larger sum.

Dragusin is not the only centre-back on Tottenham’s radar however, and if they cannot agree a fee with Genoa then they would be ready to pursue other targets. Tottenham similarly moved away from deals to sign David Raya and Edmond Tapsoba to bring in Guglielmo Vicario and Micky van de Ven instead during the summer window.

Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo is high on Spurs‘ shortlist, but similarly there remain issues over a potential transfer fee.

Ben Godfrey, Tosin Adarabioyo, Lloyd Kelly and Sebastian Caceres are also of interest to Tottenham, who have extensively scoured Europe for suitable options.

Spurs‘ season was in-part derailed by a hamstring injury to summer signing Van de Ven, who was one of the Premier League’s best centre-backs this season prior to pulling up in November.

Cristian Romero has also missed games due to suspension and is now sidelined with a similar muscle problem.
