Man City close to agreement over new contract with young forward
Manchester City are closing in on an agreement with 20-year-old forward Oscar Bobb over a new contract, 90min understands.
Bobb, who joined the club from Valerenga in 2019, excelled at academy level with City and was chased by a number of clubs across Europe this summer. The likes of Atalanta, Lazio and Union Berlin expressed an interest but City boss Pep Guardiola blocked his departure and instead promoted Bobb to the senior setup.
The Norway international has since managed seven appearances for the first team and even made his debut for his country, and a new contract is set to be the next reward for Bobb’s progress.
Sources have confirmed to 90min that Bobb’s emergence has attracted transfer interest from both Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen, but City are not worried and they hope to wrap up an extension in the coming weeks.
Bobb is known to be happy at City, where he links up with international teammate Erling Haaland, and is keen to continue his development under Guardiola.
„[Guardiola] is a perfectionist so we can always do better,“ Bobb told club media in November. „You see a new way to play the game and everything seems so simple.“
The boss has already publicly promised „a lot of minutes“ to Bobb, who is embracing the battle for opportunities with some of football’s most established stars.
„It’s very good motivation,“ he said of the competition for minutes. „It’s the place where you want to be.
„It definitely motivates me.“
