Benjamin Sesko reveals why it was better to join RB Leipzig over Man Utd
Benjamin Sesko believes he made the right call to join RB Leipzig instead of Manchester United this summer.
The 20-year-old agreed to join Leipzig ahead of the 2023/24 season from Red Bull Salzburg last summer for £20.8m, though some of Europe’s biggest clubs were interested in buying him before he’d even touched down in Germany.
90min reported back in April that Man Utd and Newcastle both had Sesko on their respective striker shortlists ahead of the summer transfer window. The Red Devils ended up bringing in Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta for an initial £64m, while the Magpies ultimately decided against signing another number nine.
During an interview with Transfermarkt, Sesko was asked about this interest from United, and though he suggested he was left in the dark over whether an offer came in, he’s glad that he wound up with Leipzig.
„The thing is, I wasn’t really involved in these kinds of [transfer] conversations. But I think it was better to come here,“ Sesko said.
„It was very important for me to go to a place that plays a similar style of football. I already knew what I had to do and didn’t have to go through a whole learning process again.“
Sesko has made a fairly bright start to life with Leipzig. He notably came off the bench to score a 15-minute brace in an impressive 3-0 win at Union Berlin at the beginning of September, while he came off the bench to net in stoppage time in their 3-1 triumph over Young Boys in the Champions League last week.
