Man Utd team news

Raphael Varane was reduced to tears after pulling up with a thigh injury against Chelsea which will rule him out of Manchester United’s remaining matches before the World Cup. Axel Tuanzebe is unlikely to return ahead of Christmas, while Brandon Williams is still building up his own fitness.

Donny van de Beek and Harry Maguire returned from the bench in midweek, but Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s fitness struggles continue. Anthony Martial has missed the club’s last five outings with a back injury which clouds his availability this Sunday.

Man Utd Starting 11 (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Dalot, Lindelof, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Eriksen; Antony, Fernandes, Sancho; Rashford.
Bench: Heaton, Maguire, Malacia, Fred, Pellistri, Elanga, McTominay, Garnacho, Van de Beek.

West Ham team news

Summer arrival Nayef Aguerd finally made his first appearance for the club in midweek after undergoing ankle surgery in July. However, there remains „a bundle“ of injury concerns for David Moyes.

Lucas Paqueta has been ruled out with a shoulder injury until next week at the earliest. Craig Dawson is „really touch and go for Sunday“ while Maxwel Cornet suffered a setback in training this week.

Jarrod Bowen was fit enough to run outside, but may not be risked in the starting XI.

West Ham Starting 11 (4-2-3-1): Fabianski; Johnson, Zouma, Kehrer, Cresswell; Soucek, Rice; Fornals, Downes, Benrahma; Scamacca.
Bench: Areola, Randolph, Coufal, Bowen, Antonio, Lanzini, Ogbonna, Coventry, Emerson.

„Going to Old Trafford for anybody is a really difficult test,“ Moyes admitted on Friday. But especially for him. The former Red Devils boss is winless in 15 Premier League visits to Manchester as an opposition manager, losing 11.

As Ten Hag is at pains to point out at any given opportunity, his side remain a work in progress. However, Manchester United should have enough to prevent West Ham recording their first away win in the league since August.

Prediction: Man Utd 2-1 West Ham
