Erik ten Hag tells Man Utd ’not to bother him‘ before Ajax matches
Incoming manager Erik ten Hag has told Manchester United officials that they must not contact him during his pre-match preparations with Ajax.
Ten Hag has signed a three-year deal at Old Trafford with the option for a fourth and will take the reins later this summer.
The 52-year-old is looking to bow out at Ajax off the back of a third successive Eredivisie title, with the Amsterdam club sitting four points clear of rivals PSV Eindhoven at the top of the table with just four games remaining.
ESPN report that Ten Hag insisted during negotiations that Man Utd should not ‚bother him‘ within 48 hours of Ajax matches, with talks regarding the job taking place earlier this year when the Dutch club were not already preoccupied with their busy schedule.
Listen now to 90min’s brand new podcast, Talking Transfers, with Scott Saunders & Graeme Bailey. Toby Cudworth joins the show again this week to discuss how Erik ten Hag’s appointment may affect Man Utd’s pursuit of Paul Mitchell. There is also chat on the futures of Jesse Lingard & David de Gea and a look at what Newcastle are planning this summer.
While Ten Hag is beginning to make assessments of his future squad, the report adds that the inverse is also true, with Man Utd players reaching out to former teammate and Ajax vice-captain Daley Blind.
The ex-United defender has told the current Red Devils contingent of Ten Hag’s tactical preferences and dressing room rules, while he has also insisted that the boss is not afraid to make big personnel decisions after he dropped star striker Sebastien Haller for their KNVB Cup final loss to PSV recently.
