Manchester United and Liverpool meet for the second time in a week as they face off at Old Trafford in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday evening.

The two battled out a tight 0-0 draw in the Premier League last week but have since had differing fortunes, with the Red Devils coming from behind to beat Fulham, while Liverpool suffered a league defeat at Anfield for the first time since April 2017 at the hands of Burnley.

A big run of important fixtures coming up awaits both sides, including this meeting on Sunday. Here is 90min’s preview of the clash.

Manchester United have a full strength squad to choose from in this one, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have some decisions to make. He stated prior to the game with Fulham that nobody was tired, although he dropped Marcus Rashford and that likely means he will start this time around. Donny van de Beek, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and Alex Telles are all pushing for a place from the off, too.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp decided to start without Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino against Burnley, while Jordan Henderson missed the game with what was described as a ‚minor‘ problem. Joel Matip returned and played for 90 minutes at centre-back, but Joe Gomez and Virgil Van Dijk are still long-term absentees.

Solskjaer’s men equalled a club-record run of 17 league games away from home without defeat, and have lost just once in their last 12 games in all competitions.

They look strong defensively, keeping three clean sheets in the last four games, while also looking dangerous going forward. Paul Pogba’s recent form has emphasised their improvement, with the Frenchman scoring two goals in his last three games.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are in a world of trouble right now. They have failed to win five of their last six games in all competitions, with the only victory coming against a very young Aston Villa side in the previous round of this competition.

Klopp’s men have failed to score in each of their last four Premier League games and have struggled to even create many clear cut chances in that time.

In big games like this, form normally goes out of the window. But with the two sides having already met so recently, we already know what this game will probably look like.

With the game at Old Trafford, Manchester United will feel the need to attack more than they did last week and neither team will want extra-time after 90 minutes. It will be a slightly more open affair, with United aware that if they can score first that Liverpool will struggle to break them down again.

Klopp’s men will be very keen to make amends for their recent results by beating one of their biggest rivals and halting their momentum. With such a short space between fixtures though, it’s hard to see how they do it.
