Arne Slot reveals Liverpool’s deadline day transfer plans
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has admitted he does not expect the Reds to make any further signings this summer before Friday’s transfer deadline.
The Reds have overseen a relatively quiet summer window. Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has agreed to join the club from Valencia next summer as the long-term replacement for Alisson, while Liverpool waited until the penultimate day of the window before securing the signature of Federico Chiesa.
Despite links to a new midfielder and defender, Slot insists Liverpool are unlikely to make any more transfer moves unless a bargain deal arises.
„I am not expecting anything but it is no different than all the days before,“ Slot said on Friday morning. „If we see an opportunity, we could act, but I’m not expecting anything.“
Slot also confirmed he does not expect any further outgoings.
„Same for incoming transfers or loans, if it is the right opportunity for the player and for us as a club, we will act,“ he said. „If that opportunity comes for the both of us, it will happen.“
Slot’s comments appear to close the door to a possible exit for goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who began the summer by admitting his desire to leave in search of regular minutes. A player-plus-cash offer from Nottingham Forest was recently turned down.
„We have to make decisions as well,“ Slot said of Kelleher. „It’s not only the player.
„If you work at a club like Liverpool, you need competition and we need a lot of good players. Mamardashvili is someone for the future of the club and I am really, really happy with the goalkeepers we have at the moment, Caoimh is one of them, like Vite [Jaros] and Ali. We’re in a good place when it comes to goalkeepers for now and for the long term.“
