Liverpool ‚express interest‘ in Brentford forward

Liverpool are interested in signing versatile forward Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, according to a report.

The Reds are entering a new era following the departure of club legend Jurgen Klopp, who has stood down from his role as manager following a hugely successful nine-year tenure.

In his place, Liverpool have brought in Feyenoord boss Arne Slot as their new head coach as part of a new footballing structure. Transfer business is expected to be led by FSG’s CEO of football Michael Edwards, as well as the club’s new sporting director Richard Hughes.

L’Equipe report that Liverpool, as well as Newcastle United, have already ‚expressed an interest‘ in Mbeumo.

In an interview with the same outlet, Mbeumo opened the door to a move away from Brentford, revealing his wish to compete for the game’s most prestigious honours.

„I spent five seasons at Brentford, in a club that knew how to help me grow and take a step forward. But yes, I want to play in the biggest competitions, in the best clubs,“ he said.

„It’s still enticing to see some big teams interested in me. We’ll see.“

Mbeumo’s contract runs until 2026 and Brentford retain the option to tack a further 12 months onto this deal.

Since joining the Bees in 2019, Mbeumo has registered 50 goals and 42 assists in 200 appearances, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s best forwards outside the traditional ‚big six‘.

When asked where he can still improve, Mbeumo replied: „In percussion, one-on-one. I have qualities for that which I have not yet fully exploited. In the last action too, I must be even more killer, more decisive.

„I also know how important the side job is. I set up programmes with a sports coach. I am following a virtual reality program that allows me to improve my cognitive abilities. You have to be ready for the seasons to come.“
