Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has expressed his desire to keep Alexander Isak amid interest in the forward from Arsenal.

The Magpies forward has scored 18 goals across all competitions for the team this season, making him the squad’s top goalscorer. His success has caught the attention of clubs across Europe, yet Howe is adamant on keeping Isak at St James‘ Park.

„No one connected with Newcastle would want to lose him,“ Howe said. „He’s an outstanding talent. I thought he was excellent against West Ham.

„He didn’t score in open play but his two penalties were outstanding and his general play was very good. His link play, his athleticism, he looked in a really good place.“

Isak was recently asked about a summer move away from Newcastle and, while he stressed his commitment to the team, the Swede did leave the door open by admitting „things can happen“ in the summer transfer window.

Isak’s performance against West Ham on Saturday helped the Magpies secure a tight 4-3 victory in the Premier League. He bagged two goals and one assist, while creating a further two chances.

His efforts have seen him earn a spot on Arsenal’s radar as they look to bolster their options in the attack. The signing of a new goalscorer will likely be a key priority for the Gunners this summer, increasing their chances of earning silverware.

They have been linked with a number of strikers already, with Isak being just one. Brentford’s Ivan Toney has also become a top choice after returning from a lengthy ban, with his skills already clear to see on the pitch.

Arsenal also cannot be discounted in pursuit of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, although London rivals Chelsea are pushing to land the Nigerian’s signature.
